Washington Weather Forecast: Lingering Clouds, Chance Showers

After the heat and smoke Puget Sound has seen this summer, a return to classic gray skies this weekend may not be so bad.

SEATTLE — If you liked Friday's gray skies and scattered showers, good news: the second verse is the same as the first. Saturday is forecasted to largely be a repeat of Saturday's cloudy, but relatively pleasant weather.

National Weather Service satellite images from Friday morning show the clouds that will continue to pass over Puget Sound for the next 24 hours or so.

Saturday will bring the first of two lows in from the north/northwest, according to the NWS. That'll mean highs in the low and mid 70s and a chance for showers, especially in the morning. Showers should taper off in the midday, but the clouds will stick around through the evening, when the chance for showers returns once again. Expect an overnight low in the mid to upper 50s.

Sunday will bring that second low, through NWS meteorologist say it'll be more of a "glancing blow" passing more to the northeast. That means that while highs will stay in the mid 70s and clouds will linger through the morning, there are unlikely to be any showers.

Following Sunday, there is a chance for lingering light showers Monday, but clouds should clear out to just partly cloudy. A warming trend will then continue through the midweek, bringing highs into the mid 70s and low 80s across the interior Tuesday and Wednesday.

It may seem a little bland, but after the record-breaking heat Puget Sound has seen this summer, unremarkable weather doesn't sound too bad. Speaking of which: Western Washington will also likely skate when it comes to smoke, at least for the foreseeable future. The latest forecast from the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency shows clear, clean air through at least Monday. Any light smoke high overhead should be flushed away by those scattered showers.
