Bowman Charged with First-Degree Murder in Slaying of Yancy Noll

Dinh Bowman, who was arrested last Friday at his north Seattle home, is being held without bail. He faces 25-31 years in prison.

King County prosecutors filed first-degree murder charges today against Dinh Bowman, who accused of gunning down wine steward Yancy Noll at a Lake City intersection Aug. 31, The Seattle Times reports.Β 

Bowman, 29, of North Seattle, is accused of firing five shots at Noll at the intersection of 15th Ave. N.E. and N.E. 75th St. Three shots struck Noll in the side of the head and he died at Harborview Medical Center soon after.

Bowman and Noll, 43, apparently did not know each other, O'Toole said.

Seattle Police arrested Bowman, a University of Washington graduate in electrical engineering, early Friday at his home.

Bowman was denied bail because of his extensive attmepts to conceal the crime. He shot through the passenger-side window of hisΒ silver BMW Z4 convertible and replaced the glass, changed all four tires, repainted the car's wheels and hid the car.

Investigators searched Vague Industries in Sodo, where Bowman works, and found the old tires, as well as masking tape used to paint the wheels, senior prosecutor Scott O'Toole said.

The Times reported that Bowman was a child prodigy, taking college-level computer science courses at Seattle Pacific University when he was 13. He also was nationally ranked in fencing as a youth.

In 2006, Bowman was acquitted of burglary and first-degree theft.

Bowman is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 8. If he is convicted as charged, he faces a sentence rangeΒ of 25 to 31 years in prison.
