King's Mock Trial Team Places Third
Many of the ninth to 12th grade students on the squad are first year Mock Trial members, or had never before competed at the state level
Kingβs Schools announced that their mock trial team finished third place in the 2012 Washington State Mock Trial Competition, held this past weekend in Olympia. In only its second year of competition, Kingβs has quickly become competitive with other nationally ranked teams from the state of Washington. The top-three rank is an improvement of 17 spots from last yearβs 20th place finish in the same competition.
Many of the ninth to 12thΒ grade students on the squad are first year Mock Trial members, or had never before competed at the state level. A total of 22 high school teams from across the state competed for the title in a three-day, four-round competition this weekend at the Thurston County Courthouse. Kingβs Schools came out strong, holding their own against the more experienced and larger schools. Β
This is the 25th year for the YMCA Mock Trial program, which began in 1987. Mock Trial is part of the YMCAβs Youth & Government program, which helps students experience democracy in action. Mock Trial allows students to participate in true-to-life courtroom drama before real judges in real courtrooms, gaining an understanding of the law and the role of the judiciary.
