LFP Caucus Goers Turn Out to Support Obama

About 20 people come to Brookside Elementary on a sunny Sunday to support the president.

They were few in turnout on Sunday, but about 20 people came to the Democratic caucuses at Brookside Elementary in Lake Forest Park to show unwavering support for President Barack Obama.

Obama has had his critics on the left, but not with the Democrats of Precinct 0517 in LFP.

"I'm happy with everything he's done," said Theldona Esko, LFP resident for 48 years, who voted for Obama in 2008.

"We've never missed a caucus," she said.Β

"Got to support your politics," said Maurice Esko, her husband. "We're going to be delegates."

Nineteen people signed up to be delegates at Brookside on Sunday. People also signed up to join the 46th Legislative District Democrats, which will represent LFP after the November election.Β

Lake Forest Park Elementary also hosted caucuses on Sunday in LFP.

Up next is the Congressional District event May 20 and the state convention June 2 in Seattle.

"We've gone to the state convention before when we were young," Theldona Esko said.

She said while she's happy with Obama, she doesn't like partisan bickering.

"I'm unhappy with all the negativism," she said. "Everything should be about what we've accomplished in the last four years and what we expect to accomplish in the next four years. I would hope that's how you get voters."

Sherry Kenealy, a 50-year resident of LFP, is a strong Obama supporter and voted for him in 2008.

She was attending her first caucus ever at Brookside, but was the only one in her precinct to show.Β

Still, she got her first taste of caucus politics and got to vote for Obama.

Katie Rohs, the area coordinator for the LFP caucus, said, β€œIt went exactly how I expected it to, easy, uncomplicated. I like politics, it’s fun.”

She was an Obama organizer for the 32nd Legislative District in 2008. She brought her son Hank, age 7, now a student at Brookside, again to the caucus.
