Mysterious Car Break-in Puzzles Shoreline Resident

A Patch user reports that items were stolen from her car and a neighbor’s in the Richmond Highlands neighborhood of Shoreline, even though they were both locked and there was no sign of forced entry.

She tracked her stolen iPhone to West Seattle.

Police were puzzled as well.

“We have a car alarm and our doors were locked,” wrote Jenny Bandita in a post on Patch’s Facebook page recently. “It was reported to the Shoreline police and the officer said he didn't know how they got in.”

Bandita shared this story about a phenomenon police have seen elsewhere: thieves using some type of device that appears to unlock doors on some cars. She wonders if that’s what happened to her and her neighbor—both have newer Hondas.
