Commencements held this spring across the West

Many Shoreline and Lake Forest Park natives graduated from college this spring.

Here are some of them:

On Sunday, May 20, several locals graduated from Whitman CollegeΒ in Walla Walla during the 126th commencement ceremony.

Price Hardman, a native of Seattle, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Mathematics.

Noah Lerner, a native of Lake Forest Park, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Religion.

Sara Levy, a native of Shoreline, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in English.

Jeremy Norden, a native of Seattle, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Social Psychology.

Laura Numata, a native of Seattle, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Economics.

Hannelore Ohaus, a native of Dartmouth, Massachusetts received a Bachelor of the Arts in English.

Peter Olson, a native of Lake Forest Park, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology.

Timothy Wilder, a native of Seattle, Washington received a Bachelor of the Arts in Philosophy.

A total of 420 degrees were conferred at the ceremony in front of an estimated crowd of 4,000 students, famiily members, faculty, staff and guests. The Commencement speaker was Eric Schlosser, journalist and best-selling author of "Fast Food Nation."

The event, held on the scenic South Lawn of the Memorial Building, crowned a celebratory weekend of activities, including the 50-year reunion of the Class of 1962 and the college's traditional Baccalaureate, held Saturday afternoon in Cordiner Hall.

Whitman College, in Walla Walla, Wash., is nationally renowned for offering a rigorous, well-rounded liberal arts undergraduate education. An independent, non-sectarian residential college, Whitman fosters intellectual vitality, confidence and leadership in its 1,450 students. Also noted for its commitment to environmental principles, Whitman is characterized by intellect, down-to-earth sensibilities, collaboration over competition and active lifestyle.

Peter Meyers of Lake Forest Park Graduates with Honors from University of San Diego

Peter Meyers of Lake Forest Park graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Diego May 27.

Meyers earned a bachelor's degree in computer science. Meyers completed the requirements for graduation in January and walked in the May ceremony.

Rebecca Thompson Graduates From Colorado College

Rebecca Thompson graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Colorado College.

Thompson is the daughter of Juanita and Mikel Thompson of Shoreline, WA.

The college awarded 525 undergraduate degrees and five master of arts in teaching degrees at its 130th commencement ceremony, held on May 21 outdoors on Armstrong Quad.

Musician Abigail Washburn, a 1999 graduate of Colorado College, addressed the Class of 2012. In addition to Washburn, Colorado Lt. Gov. Joseph Garcia and legendary jazz guitarist Johnny Smith also received honorary degrees.

Colorado College is a nationally prominent, four-year liberal arts college that was founded in Colorado Springs in 1874. The college operates on the innovative Block Plan, in which its 2,000 undergraduate students study one course at a time in intensive 3Β½-week segments. Justin Blackwood of Seattle has been awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Michael Korpi of Seattle has been awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Local Students Graduate from Gonzaga University

The following Gonzaga University students from your area participated in graduation exercises during our Commencement Ceremony that was held on Sunday, May 13th in Spokane's Veterans' Memorial Arena.

These students from your area have either completed their undergraduate degree or are expected to complete their degree requirements this year.
