Trillium Award Historic Building Nominations Deadline is Sept. 30

The purpose of the award is to raise awareness of the community's past and recognize outstanding examples ofhistoric architecture, as well as encourage excellence in maintenance and perpetuation of historic buildings.

The annual Trillium Award nominations are open until September 30, 2012.

The purpose of the award is to raise awareness of the community’s past and recognize outstanding examples ofhistoricΒ architecture, as well as encourage excellence in maintenance and perpetuation ofΒ historic buildings. These awards are presented by theΒ ShorelineΒ HistoricalΒ MuseumΒ to property owners in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, and North Seattle. Each of these areas will receive one award for the home or structure that has been best maintained in its original style of construction. The building must have been built before December 31, 1940.

Anyone may nominate a building for this award by completing the nomination form and submitting it to theΒ Museum. The form is available online at:

or directly from theΒ MuseumΒ at 18501 Linden Ave N.,Β Shoreline. Each nomination requires the signature of the owner of the property. The award does not affect property taxation or any other legal status.

In the past, awards have been made to a great variety of buildings, including a log cabin, a mansion, and aΒ historicΒ clubhouse. The awards are presented at the Annual Meeting of the Museum, in November. Property owners are always thrilled to receive this recognition because maintaining the original style of the structure usually has required a lot of effort and extra expense. The presence of this built heritage in our community is a significant component of our interesting and diverse environment!
