1. Senior and Disabled Utility Discount Program Helping More People (spokanecity.org) — Spokane seniors and disabled residents may now find it easier to get help with city utility bills, thanks to outreach that boosted enrollment in the discount program by 75 percent. Eligible customers receive $15 off monthly bills in 2025, rising to $20 in 2026, spread across water, sewer, and solid waste services. Residents are urged to apply as soon as possible.
   

2. Spokane bar shooting suspect found not guilty on murder charges (khq.com) — A Spokane County Superior Court jury has found Moses Adedeji not guilty on all charges connected to a downtown bar shooting, and a judge ordered his immediate release. The 22-year-old had faced multiple serious counts, including attempted murder and assault, after two people were reportedly shot in the head this summer. Officials have not yet explained what led to the acquittal.
   

3. Multiple people arrested in Spokane shoplifting blitz (kxly.com) — Spokane Police arrested 17 people in a recent shoplifting blitz at local retailers including Safeway, Lowe’s, and Hobby Lobby, and say the crackdown will continue through Christmas. Detectives are coordinating closely with Spokane businesses and assigning an officer to forward all felony theft cases. Residents who witness shoplifting are urged to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
   

4. Spokane health officials alert families to counterfeit toy hazards (khq.com) — Spokane Regional Health District is warning families to watch out for potentially unsafe counterfeit toys, especially when shopping online for last-minute Christmas gifts. Officials urge parents to look for UL safety marks, choose non-toxic products, buy only from trusted retailers or official brand sites, and carefully inspect labels, packaging, and reviews to avoid dangerous knockoffs.
   

5. Holiday closures in Spokane (929zzu.com) — Expect major holiday changes to Spokane city services, including City Hall, courts, libraries, Riverfront Park attractions, and garbage and recycling pickup running a day late after Christmas and New Year’s. Parking meters and kiosks won’t require payment on Christmas or New Year’s, though time limits still apply. Spokane City Council meetings are also canceled on Dec. 29 and Jan. 5.
