Engelmann and Emmi released the followingย statement:

"We feel proud to have been in a position to help and make a difference, but Marc and I were not the onlyย ones that helped Gerry Goit that day. It was a team effort from emergency crews and other concernedย citizens; we certainly are not heroes. We pitched in along with everyone else at the scene, to help Gerryย get out safely and that was everyoneโ€™s No. 1 priority. Gerry is ok and is with his family, which is allย that matters and we were just happy to help."

The Soldier's Medal was established by act of congress on July 2, 1926. The medal is awarded to anyย person of the Armed Forces of the United States or of a friendly foreign nation who, while serving in anyย capacity with the Army of the United States, distinguishes himself or herself by heroism. The performanceย must have involved personal hazard or danger and the voluntary risk of life, under conditions not involvingย conflict with an armed enemy.
