Video Surveillance to be Discussed at Woodinville City Council Meeting Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Woodinville City Council will hear results of a survey seeking public input on the proposed plan to use video camera systems and automated license plate readers on public streets.
As part of Woodinville's crime reduction strategy, the Police Department has proposed a plan to use wireless video camera systems and automated license plate readers on public streets and city-owned property as an investigative tool to solve crimes.
On Tuesday, the City Council will hear results of a survey seeking public input on the idea. According to city documents, the city received 363 survey responses, with about 56 percent opposing the use of video cameras for law enforcement. This topic is on the agenda for discussion at the May 21 meeting at 7 p.m. at Woodinville City Hall.
The cameras would be used to help in crime investigation and would not be used to issue traffic citations. Specifics as to locations and the number of cameras that would be used have not been developed.
