SaverLife Opens $10,000 Story Competition to Bluefield Residents

Nonprofit to Give $5,000 Grand Prize and Two $2,500 Second Place Prizes for Best "Savings" Stories

On March 26, SaverLife, a national nonprofit fintech company that helps working families achieve prosperity through savings, will announce it is unveiling $10,000 in cash prizes for Bluefield, WV residents that write the most compelling stories about what saving means to them and what they are saving their money for. The company will award one $5,000 cash grand prize and two $2,500 cash second place awards.

To enter, Bluefield residents visit saverlife.org/bluefield, and sign up for SaverLife (or log in to their existing account). From their account, they upload a photo and tell SaverLife what motivates them to save and what saving means to them and their family in 200 to 1,000 characters. Deadline to submit an entry is April 19, 2020.

Winners will be announced on or around May 15, 2020.

In January, SaverLife came to Bluefield with a campaign promise to help residents become better savers. The campaign offered financial rewards to community residents with the goal of incentivizing them to save.

All Bluefield residents received $5 just for signing up. The campaign, which ends May 31, offers cash rewards (between $5 and $500) for the participants saving the most money. They’re also going to match participant savings up to $15,000, which will be donated to the Lil Tony Webster Forever 5 Scholarship Fund later this spring. Participating savers are able to track the progress of other participants in their community via a live dashboard.

650+ Bluefield residents have already signed up

SaverLife has been working closely with local Bluefield business partner Alorica and Jim Spencer, economic development director for the city of Bluefield. To date, 654 residents have signed up 37% have deposited $500 or more.

SaverLife, a 501(c)3 organization, launched with the goal of inspiring, informing and rewarding the millions of Americans who need help saving money. Through engaging technologies and strategic partnerships, the company gives working people the methods and motivation to take control of their financial future.

“We are firm believers that saving money is a journey and not a destination,” said Leigh Phillips, CEO of SaverLife. “Using our technology, we want to drive positive change for Bluefield residents by encouraging them to take charge of their financial futures by becoming better savers.”
