Mercer County deputies arrest suspect in multi-state fraud probe targeting the elderly (wvva.com) — Mercer County deputies stopped a suspected multi-state scam just in time to protect a 78-year-old Princeton woman whose cash was about to be collected. Investigators arrested a California man after surveillance at her home and are urging Princeton and county residents to be skeptical of anyone demanding secret cash withdrawals, packages, or mailings, and to report similar scams immediately.
   

2. US Attorney Moore Capito visits Mercer County police departments (wvva.com) — Princeton readers should know that U.S. Attorney Moore Capito just met with both Princeton and Bluefield police chiefs to talk about improving public safety in Mercer County. He emphasized closer cooperation with local departments, urged residents to report suspicious activity, and warned southern West Virginians to stay alert for holiday scams.
   

3. West Virginia Attorney General files new lawsuit in opioid crisis (wvnstv.com) — From Princeton, Mercer County leaders are backing a new lawsuit by the West Virginia Attorney General against Optum, a United Healthcare subsidiary, over its alleged role in the opioid crisis. Commissioner Greg Puckett says Mercer County has received about $2.8 million in settlement funds, which are being invested in long-term prevention and recovery efforts, and stresses that more counties need similar support.
   

4. CEO of WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital selected to represent West Virginia at national hospital association (wvnstv.com) — Princeton residents may be proud to see their community hospital’s CEO, Karen Bowling, chosen to represent all West Virginia hospitals on a key American Hospital Association policy board. Her new three-year role is expected to elevate WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital’s voice in national discussions on rural care, access, and hospital policy that affect patients across the Mountain State.
   

5. Salvation Army urges Angel Tree adoptions (wvva.com) — Families in Princeton can still support local children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, with donations requested by December 12 and accepted through December 15 at 300 Princeton Avenue. You can pick up Angel tags at area stores or the office, shop in person or via Amazon, and even send wrapping supplies to help make sure local kids wake up to gifts on Christmas morning.
