📰 News we're reading

• Firefighters seek answers on County Road project (weirtondailytimes.com) — Weirton firefighters are pressing city officials for clarity on when renovations and a possible reopening of the long-closed County Road Fire Station will move forward, after months without updates. City leaders say they first needed to address employee pay and building safety, but now promise another workshop soon, with the project tied to hiring six new firefighters to better cover the city’s north end.

• Boil order issued for portions of Colliers Way and nearby areas (weirtondailytimes.com) — Residents along the 100 block of Colliers Way, plus all of Denese Drive and Oakland Avenue in Weirton, are under a boil-water order after valve replacement work caused pressure issues. Anyone in the affected area should boil tap water for at least one minute or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and bathing until officials lift the notice.

• Weirton Council approves employee insurance plans (weirtondailytimes.com) — Weirton city employees will keep their current health, dental, vision, and life insurance options in 2026, but the city will pay higher premiums, especially for health coverage. Council chose Highmark plans after larger proposed increases from other insurers, with employees largely shielded from direct premium costs. All new rates take effect January 1.
