WVNCC announces evening short-term welding classes (weirtondailytimes.com) — West Virginia Northern Community College is launching short-term evening welding classes on its Wheeling campus starting January 28, giving residents a flexible way to gain in-demand trade skills after work. Courses like MIG, TIG, and SMAW run Wednesday and Thursday evenings through April 18, with options to pursue certifications and degrees that can boost local job prospects.
   

2. Bridges of Hope plans medical respite care unit for homeless in Wheeling (wtrf.com) — A new medical respite care unit is being planned in Wheeling to give homeless residents a safe, staffed place to recover from surgeries, serious illnesses, and injuries. Bridges of Hope CEO Crystal Bauer hopes to open 12 beds split between men and women, including dedicated end-of-life spaces, so people aren’t forced back to tents or shelters while still needing intensive care.
   

3. OVGH letters to shine again as restoration moves forward in Wheeling (wtrf.com) — Wheeling residents can look forward to the iconic green OVGH letters shining again, this time at the future Robrecht Riverfront Park downtown. Wheeling Park High School students are restoring the six-foot steel-and-porcelain letters, which will be mounted on a new tower incorporating bricks and benches from the former Ohio Valley Medical Center, along with trail access, parking, and a new kayak launch.
   

4. Sheriff: Holiday Patrols at The Highlands Making an Impact (theintelligencer.net) — Ohio County’s sheriff says stepped-up patrols and new license plate readers at The Highlands are cutting crime and helping manage heavy holiday traffic. Deputies logged 132 calls and 60 business foot patrols since Black Friday, and the technology has already helped recover a stolen car and locate a missing person. Commissioners will review broader 2025 crime stats at their next Wheeling meeting.
   

5. Wheeling Attorney Elgine McArdle Now Faces Witness Intimidation Charge in Marion County (theintelligencer.net) — A Wheeling-based attorney, Elgine McArdle, is facing a new witness intimidation charge tied to her defense of a motorcycle club leader in Marion County. Reports say she and a colleague allegedly influenced two state witnesses who then stopped cooperating. McArdle and the associate already face separate misdemeanor counts related to their work on the same case.
