WI Enters Settlement For Extended Vehicle Warranty Telemarketing Calls
Authorites said thousands of calls about "your vehicle's extended warranty" were made to Wisconsinites on the do-not-call list.
WISCONSIN — Wisconsin authorites on Tuesday announced a settlement agreement with a telemarketing company that's been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty.
A complaint said the company N.C.W.C. made thousands of such calls to numbers in Wisconsin without being registered as a solicitor, according to the DOJ. Further, thousands of those calls were placed to Wisconsin numbers on the do-not-call list, according to the DOJ.
The company also had sales representation agreements with around 40 other companies to sell service plans, the DOJ said. Just two of those companies have made "several hundred thousand" telemarketing calls to people on the do-not-call registry, the release said.

With the settlement, the company is required to stop all unregistered telemarketing activities in Wisconsin and to stop its third-party agents from unregistered telemarketing, the DOJ said. The company will also have a three-year period of monitoring when they are required to make annual reports.
Further, the company is required to pay $200,000 over five months, the DOJ said.

“With this resolution, the unwanted, prohibited vehicle warranty telemarketing calls from N.C.W.C. and its third-party agents should stop,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul in a news release. “Wisconsin DOJ, along with our partners at DATCP, will continue working to ensure that telemarketing companies are held accountable when they fail to follow Wisconsin law.”
“Wisconsin consumers should not be subjected to illegal solicitations by telemarketers that do not comply with our state’s consumer protection laws,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski in the news release. “Thanks to the partnership of our teams at DATCP and DOJ, this resolution holds N.C.W.C. accountable and provides significant relief to ensure compliance going forward.”
