City of Appleton, officer seek dismissal of wrongful death lawsuit (postcrescent.com) — Appleton officials and an officer are asking a federal judge to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit over the 2022 police shooting of resident Daniel Pesavento outside his North Birchwood Avenue home. The city argues the shooting was constitutionally reasonable amid an armed, volatile standoff, while Pesavento’s family claims he never pointed his gun at officers. The estate has until Jan. 21 to respond.

3. Appleton man banned from trading after Ponzi scheme fraud conviction (postcrescent.com) — An Appleton man already serving prison time for a long-running investment fraud has now been permanently banned from trading and registering with the federal commodities regulator. A recent consent order also requires additional restitution to victims and bars him from further violations. Appleton residents who invested with him or know affected neighbors may see continuing financial impacts.
   

4. Wisconsin AM To Sign Off After 78 Years. (insideradio.com) — A longtime Fox Valley radio voice, WNAM 1280 AM in Neenah-Menasha, will sign off for good on December 31 after 78 years on the air. As reported by Appleton’s Post-Crescent, the station debuted in 1947 and most recently carried soft oldies, standards, and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers games, which will move to sister station WOSH in Oshkosh next season.
   

5. Could an exhibition like 'Guiding Ethos' find a home in Madison? (tonemadison.com) — A major contemporary art exhibition, Guiding Ethos, is currently on view at Appleton’s Trout Museum of Art, bringing nationally recognized, politically engaged artists into a small, conservative-leaning city. The show tackles themes like censorship, colonialism, Gaza, and racial justice while highlighting how Wisconsin and Midwest artists are shaping national conversations. Artists say its Appleton location makes the exhibition especially meaningful.
