“I couldn’t be more proud of our team, and the effort that went in to creating this chasuble,” company president Jason Gaspard said on the web site.

“We took a chance, but I felt confident that our work would stand up amongst the well-known quality of the European makers. Even so, I have to admit that I was very surprised to learn that we had been given second place. We’re just thrilled.”

Rick Romell at JSOnline wrote a feature story on Gaspard in 2009 highlighting its niche business, selling ecclesiastical garments to religious leaders.

Gaspard said in an interview Wednesday with Brookfield Patch that the company has grown since that JSOnline feature, adding The Giving Tree, a 1,600-square-foot store with religious and inspirational gifts.

"We have a lot to offer for non-clergy as well," he said.

The Giving Tree caters to customers for events ranging from births, baptisms and bereavements, to first communions, confirmations and graduations.
