BROOKFIELD, WI — Brookfield's Board of Public Works voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve a contract between the city and Green for Life for trash pickup services.

The Common Council will vote on the contract Tuesday. If it is approved, it would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

The new contractor would take Waste Management's place as the city's premier waste collection and disposal service.

The disposal service would continue so-called "up-the-drive" service for Brookfield residents' homes, Alderman Mike Hallquist told Patch.

Hallquist favors approving the contract but added that some of the money used for the up-the-drive service could be used for other services. "That's millions of dollars we could have spent on public safety, the library or staff," he said.

Any collections the service misses due to weather will be collected the next day at no additional cost, the contract said.

Yard waste collection isn't a part of the contract but may be considered as a future service, the contract said.
