Brookfield East Athlete Seriously Hurt In Christmas Day Accident

BROOKFIELD, WI—A Brookfield teen was seriously injured in a ski accident on Christmas Day.

Andy Meser, 16, was found unconscious by ski patrol at Alpine Valley and flown to Children's Wisconsin by Flight for Life where he was put in a medically-induced coma when he first arrived, according to a GoFundMe page.

According to the fundraising page, he was wearing a helmet. As of January 3, Meser was out of the coma but heavily sedated.

According to family spokesperson, Marilynn Mee, Meser is on the Brookfield East Boys Varsity Ski Team. Mee added he is considered the team's best skier. Meser is also a part-time employee at Kopp's in Brookfield.

The Brookfield East student and athlete has a huge group of supporters.

"The entire Brookfield East community is pulling for Andy as he begins to show initial signs of improvement," said Brookfield East Principal Andy Farley. "Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the Meser family, as well as Andy's friends and teammates on the ski team as they rally together in response to this tragic accident."

A GoFundMe was set up to help the Meser family with financial costs. As of Monday, over $54,000 was raised.

"Andy is one tough cookie but he'll need your support and prayers. We don't know what the road to recovery will look like," the website said.
