Business Space Damaged By Fire And Smoke In Brookfield
One firefighter suffered a minor injury while working to extinguish a fire at a Brookfield commercial building Tuesday, fire officials said.

BROOKFIELD, WI — A commercial building in Brookfield sustained significant damage to its garage and smoke damage throughout after a fire broke out Tuesday evening, according to the Brookfield Fire Department.
Firefighters found the single-story, medium-sized building in the 12000 block of Townsend Street with smoke inside, so they started an aggressive attack on the fire, ventilated the blaze, and performed search and rescue of the building, according to a news release. The 911 call came in around 7:38 p.m. and the people inside the building had gotten out before firefighters arrived, the news release said.
Authorities said the fire was brought under control by 8:16 p.m. During the response, one firefighter suffered a minor injury, the Brookfield Fire Department said.

The contents of the garage had extensive damage while the rest of the building had significant smoke damage, authorities said. What caused the fire remains under investigation, the fire department said.
"Every year there are 16,500 office and store fires in the United States. Plan and practice multiple escape routes in case one is blocked and remove any obstacles from exits," the fire department said in a safety awareness message alongside the news release.
