The sidewalks are closed until spring in the following locations: North Ave from Pilgrim Square Dr. to North 124th Street and Calhoun Road from North Avenue to Capitol Drive. The closure is due to the timing of the completion of the construction of the sidewalks. Snow and ice removal cannot occur on new sidewalks until the concrete can properly cure and the landscaping, including sod, can fully establish its root system into the ground, which does not occur until spring. Using commercial snow equipment and salt on the sidewalk would lead to the City having to install new sod in spring and shorten the life of the sidewalk. Accordingly, to be fiscally responsible and ensure residents’ safety, the City decided to wait until spring to open these sidewalks.
