Elmbrook Schools Requires Staff To Wear Masks 2 Weeks

BROOKFIELD, WI — Elmbrook School District is requiring all staff to wear masks for the first two weeks of the spring semester citing higher COVID-19 cases, according to the district.

"Due to a high number of staff cases in the past ten days, we believe the stability of our workforce is the lynchpin to providing a consistent, in-person learning experience for our students and, as a result, we will be requiring all staff to wear a mask when with others for the first two weeks of school. Additionally, to mitigate disease spread and to prioritize in-person learning, we strongly recommend all students wear masks as well. We will reassess the situation again on January 14," the district said in a statement.

The district recorded 95 COVID-19 cases among its student body as of Monday morning, according to the district's COVID-19 dashboard.

There are 75 positive cases among students, district data showed. There are 20 positive cases among staff.

As of Nov. 30, 84% of staff have completed the vaccine series and 76 % of Elmbrook residents have completed the vaccine series.

The district announced it will begin to report the number of new cases each day, by school, beginning Thursday on the District’s COVID Dashboard. Starting this reporting on Thursday allows for both testing and reporting of student cases to catch up from the holiday break, the district said.

Waukesha County had very high case activity between Dec. 15 and Dec. 28, according to Wisconsin Department of Health and Services data. The county's case burden is 795 positive virus cases per 100,000 people.
