Kittens Rescued In Hoarding Case Up For Adoption In Brookfield
The humane society took in 44 kittens from a smaller shelter in Oklahoma and announced adoptions are available Monday to Friday.

BROOKFIELD, WI — Almost a dozen litters of kittens have found a new temporary home at the Elmbrook Humane Society and will be available for adoption this week.
The Elmbrook Humane Society, 20950 Enterprise Avenue, announced Monday it took in 44 kittens from a shelter in Oklahoma.
The society will put the kittens up for adoption from Monday to Friday. The adoption fee is $135 and includes microchipping, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and a health screening, which were all performed on the kittens when they arrived, the society said in a statement.

The kittens were transferred from an Oklahoma shelter to Brookfield after they were found in a hoarding case, the society said. The other shelter didn’t have enough room for the kittens, and they likely would have been euthanized if the society didn’t take them, it added.

The humane society needs supplies, monetary donations and adoptions to loving homes, the society said. The cost of taking in one kitten is $175, which adds up $7,700 to take in the whole group, it added.

Costs go to spaying or neutering, distemper vaccinations, deworming and the cost of food and litter to make sure the kittens are healthy and ready for adoption, the society said.
“There’s always a significant upfront cost when taking in larger groups of animals from another shelter or rescue operation, but it’s always worth that cost to ensure these animals are getting the care and medical attention they need,” Executive Director Heather Gehrke said. The humane society has foster homes and facilities available for the kittens through support from donors, she added.
Residents interested in adopting a kitten can find more information on Elmbrook's website. Those who are interested in donating to the humane society can submit a form online.
