Police Report: Facebook Friction and Burning Warnings

The latest police calls include complaints about illegal burning, harassment via Facebook, "end of the world" messages on parked RVs and more.

As the snow disappears, the burning pits return.

And it didn't take long for police to start getting calls about fires burning without supervision.

Officers issued warnings to two residents who left weekend fires unattended, according to police reports. Here are the city's rules on burning brush and yard waste.

One woman told police she thought she had doused a fire before leaving a home in the 700 block of Tower Hill Drive Saturday evening. But a neighbor called police to say the fire was burning unattended and the resident had done that before. 

In the other case, a neighbor put out a fire in the 1900 block of Melody Lane at 1:30 p.m. Easter Sunday after the resident had left it burning while gone. Police responded to a third burning complaint — about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 13500 block of Oak Hill Lane — but found no violation.

Here are some other police calls from the week of April 19 to 25:

Facebook friend friction: A woman called police to say she has a temporary restraining order against her husband. She asked officers if it was a violation of that court order that her husband's brother's girlfriend sent her a Facebook friend request. The girlfriend lives in the same house as the woman's husband. No, officers said. She denied the Facebook request.

Facebook harassment: A mother complained that her daughter was being harassed on Facebook by another girl, who wrote comments such as "get a life" and called her insulting names. She asked that police officers talk to the girl and her father. They did. The girl agreed to stop the negative remarks, and her father said there was an ongoing problem between students and the girl whose mother complained.

Harassing text messages: A Wauwatosa woman said her ex-husband's girlfriend had been sending her harassing texts for about three weeks. When an officer was at her home to investigate, the Wauwatosa woman received about a half-dozen more texts in about 10 minutes with derogatory names and insults sent from the ex's girlfriend, who lives in Brookfield. Police went to the woman's house in the 1400 block of Santa Rosa Drive after midnight on Thursday but she refused to come to the door. She called 911 twice. Officers planned to mail her citations for harassment and misuse of 911.

Ring found: A man brought a ring to the police department that he said he found in the parking lot at Brookfield Square Mall on Saturday morning. Officers placed the ring on inventory.

Teacher's house gets egged: A teacher's house on Hidden Hills Drive got egged sometime Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Three or four eggs hit the house. She said this was the second time in recent past and in the other instance she didn't report because another neighbor also had his house toilet-papered.

Scaring away customers? Employees at U.S. Cellular and called police to complain about four RVs with "end of the world" messages displayed on them, parked in the lot on Thursday and previous days. Police said the religious messages "appeared to be a bit fanatical" but the RVs were not parked illegally and the occupants were eating at . No action was taken.

Train signal problems: A train was stalled on the tracks about 12:15 p.m. Saturday, blocking several intersections where railroad tracks cross, including North Brookfield Road south of Burleigh Road, at Calhoun Road and Pilgrim Road. The train was moved by 1:45 p.m.

Attempted home burglary: A homeowner in the 1300 block of Golf Parkway scared away an intruder who was trying to break into her back patio door during the noon hour Wednesday. The suspect fled on foot and officers later were searching with canine assistance.

Trees sawed, felled: A resident in the 19500 block of Chaparral Drive said that sometime between 9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday someone sawed into two trees on two separate vacant lots he owns next to his home. There also was a tree cut in the 19600 block of Chaparral Drive. The trees were cut almost entirely through, and fell into a road.

Dog bite: While walking his dog on Easter morning, a man was bit by a neighbor's dog. The Forest Lane resident said it was not a serious bite and did not require medical attention, and the case was assigned to the Elmbrook Humane Society.

Dumpster diving for books? A 64-year-old man and and a 50-year-old woman were warned about trespassing after they were caught rummaging through the Dumpster behind Half-Priced Books, 17145 W. Blue Mound Road.

Suspicious: Female employees at , 16970 W. Blue Mound Road, told police a man was watching pornographic videos while sitting in his car in their parking lot for about 30 minutes, after being inside the store. Police found no lewd behavior and the man, 27, said he was watching an episode of Nip Tuck on his cell phone. 

Gas skip: The driver of a Dodge Intrepid left without paying for $54.54 in gas about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Burned soup: Fire crews were called to a house in the 2400 block of North 128th Street at 9:30 Sunday for report of smoke. The resident was advised to evacuate. The culprit: burned noodle soup on the stove.

Tire slashed: Someone slashed a tire on a car parked in the 19000 block of Bennington Drive overnight Saturday. 

Car keyed: Someone keyed a car parked at sometime between 11:20 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. Saturday. The car was a 2011 Chevy Cruze loaned from Stark Automotive Group, and the damage was estimated at $300.

Driving on lawns: Police were investigating minor damage to the yards of four homes over which someone drove a vehicle overnight Friday, leaving tire tracks. Two homes were in the 3100 block of Applegate Lane, one in the 3200 block of Old Lantern Drive and one in the 13700 block of Commons Drive.

Culvers disturbance: An employee at , 3705 N. 124th St., said his father came into the restaurant and during an argument, punched him in the face. The father was arrested for domestic violence/battery for the incident about 4 p.m. on Good Friday.

No solicitors: A man told police that while going door-to-door handing out information at 3:30 p.m. on Good Friday, a woman threw the documents back in his face and then sent her dog after him. He didn't want to press charges but wanted a report filed.

Stolen laptop at office: Someone removed a $750 laptop from the reception desk at Farmer's Insurance, 19275 W. Capitol Dr. There was no sign of forced entry.

Stolen Nintendo DS at school: A student, 19, was cooperative after being caught stealing a fellow student's Nintendo DS on Thursday. The teenage man received a municipal citation for receiving stolen property.

Fight on a school bus: One student was injured in a fight between and students that occurred on a school bus Thursday morning. The fight occurred when the bus was on Burleigh Road, east of North 124th Street, so Wauwatosa police were asked to investigate.

Recycling complaint: A resident complained that the store at 12605 W. North Ave. was illegally dumping electronic equipment into the Dumpster and not properly disposing it per a 2010 state recycling law. Officers warned the company.
