Brookfield Center Opens For Displaced Waukesha Condo Residents
The American Red Cross and community partners will open a resource center Thursday in Brookfield.

BROOKFIELD, WI — The American Red Cross announced plans to open a multi-agency resource center for residents who were evacuated from Horizon West Condominiums.
The resource center will open from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Elmbrook Church, 777 Barker Road.

The American Red Cross will also offer meals, discussions on recovery plans and access to mental health or other health services.

The agencies include the following.
- Waukesha County Economic Support.
- Legal Action of Wisconsin.
- St. Vincent de Paul.
- Aging and Disability Resource Center.
- Salvation Army.
- Food Pantry of Waukesha.
- Housing Action Coalition.
- Community Advocates.
The Waukesha Fire Department ordered the evacuation of Horizon West Condominiums, 315 N. West Ave., on Dec. 2 because of deteriorating structural conditions at the building, the city said.

Some 65 residents were evacuated. Residents were later allowed into the building to retrieve personal items. It is not known if the building will be repaired or demolished.
As a result of recent inspections, the city's chief building inspector found the condominium building to be unfit for human occupancy, the city said earlier.
Waukesha Fire Chief Steve Howard and city leaders deemed it imperative to evacuate residents immediately.
