Woman Killed At Brookfield Home, Suspect Later Found Dead: Police
The suspect in a fatal shooting at a Brookfield home Wednesday was later found dead with self-inflicted wounds, according to police.

BROOKFIELD, WI — A woman was found shot dead at a Brookfield home Wednesday afternoon and the man suspected of shooting her was later found dead with self-inflicted injuries, according to police.
Authorities found the person who was shot in the 1000 block of Appletree Lane around 2:40 p.m., according to a news release from police. The suspect was quickly identified as a 35-year-old man from Menomonee Falls who was later found dead by 5:30 p.m., police said.
On Friday, police identified the suspect as Brian McAvoy of Menomonee Falls. Police identified the victim of the shooting as Sierra Alvarez, a 34-year-old woman from Menomonee Falls. Police said the two were in a relationship.

The suspect was found in New Berlin at Orchard Lane Elementary School, police told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
"The school was simply the location the suspect chose to commit acts of self-harm. We have no information to indicate the school was any sort of target or has any other association or significance related to the investigation into this matter," police said in an update Thursday.

Police said the suspect and victim knew each other, but no threat remains to the community.
"We appreciate the community's patience, understanding and support as we worked to bring this matter to a conclusion," Brookfield police wrote in a news release. "Our collective hearts and prayers go out to all the friends, family and associates of the suspect and victim who are affected by this very difficult situation."
