Two Apply for Aldermanic Seat; Deadline is Friday

Residents in the city's southeastern 7th aldermanic district have until Friday to apply for the vacant Common Council seat.

Friday is the deadline for any residents interested in applying to serve as alderman for the city's southeastern 7th district.

Two people have applied so far: Thomas Schellinger, who formerly held that seat and now serves as a Waukesha County Board supervisor, and Shawn Conaway, an information technology professional.

Residents must file letters of interest and / or resumes with the clerk's office, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

A map shows the 7th district covers the area between Blue Mound Road and Greenfield Avenue, from 124th Street west to Moorland Road, plus the area between I-94 and Greenfield Avenue from Moorland Road west to Calhoun Road.

The city's Legislative & Licensing Committee will interview the applicants the week of Sept. 12 and recommend an appointment to the Common Council for possible confirmation at its Sept. 20 meeting.

The appointee would serve until next spring's municipal elections and would have to run for re-election to serve that seat's final two years through 2014.

The seat was vacated when to apply for city clerk, after longtime clerk . 

Aldermen serve four-year terms with an annual salary of about $10,000 a year.
