Woman Selling Car Got Paid in Counterfeit $5 Bills

Brookfield police are investigating a fraudulent car payment after bank found counterfeit bills.

Brookfield police were investigating a case of counterfeit money after a woman selling her car unwittingly accepted $550 in bleached $5 bills.

According to police reports:

A Gebhardt Road resident sold her car to two people for $700, but when she went to deposit the cash at , 2205 N. Calhoun Road, employees discovered $550 was counterfeit.
