Common Council Recognizes Franklin Football For Championship Win

FRANKLIN, WI — The City of Franklin Common Council approved a proclamation at its meeting Tuesday that honors the Franklin Sabers and its 2021 Wisconsin Division 1 football state championship win.

"The Franklin High School Football season in 2021 has raised the pinnacle of the Tremendous Saber Pride to the Top of the Mountain," the proclamation reads. "The history of the 2021 Franklin High School Football Wisconsin Division 1 State Champ10nsh1p shall live on forever."

The congratulations recognized the Sabers for its 2021 season that was rounded out with a championship victory over Sun Prairie in November. The still-undefeated Sabers won against the then-undefeated Cardinals at Camp Randall in Madison 38-17, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Following the win, Sabers' Head Coach Louis Brown was named coach of the year.

"Any time you win a state title, it starts with a great group of leaders, and a great senior class," Brown said in a news release about him being coach of the year. "this is a special group of kids that don't quit, and they played to the last whistle."

The season and championship win has "been a Joyful, and well-earned achievement by the excellence of Coach of the Year Louis Brown and the Team, whose members worked, thought, and played together as one, through the wonderful season of Friday evenings and nights of victory earned and deserved," the proclamation continues.

The proclamation also honors Myles Burkett, quarterback for the Sabers, who, following the championship win, wrote a "Dear Franklin" letter that encapsulates the spirit of "All for one and One for All," the proclamation reads.

"Lastly to my family, Franklin We did it. We are Champions. Not just our program but our entire city. It took every single one of us, every single week to get it done So now we celebrate Franklin, Thank you. It has been a pleasure," the proclamation quotes from Burkett's letter.

"On, Wisconsin! On, Franklin!" the proclamation reads.
