Expedient Opens Large Data Center In Franklin
The new location moves into a space otherwise operated by Harley Davidson, reports show. The data center services cloud infrastructure.
FRANKLIN, WI — Expedient announced Wednesday that the company is opening a new tier 3 data center in Franklin to support the expansion of its cloud infrastructure services.
The 28,500 square foot facility will help to provide customers across the U.S. with cloud infrastructure services. It's the 12th facility that Expedient has opened across the country. 8,000 servers can fit into the facility to help companies manage their digital and cloud needs, according to a news release from Expedient.
The company plans to hire about a dozen new heads to fulfill the facilities needs, the news release said.

With the new facility, local companies have another option for locating server hardware. The facility is designed to help companies reduce their operations costs and simplify their IT environment, the news release said.
"Expedient's decision to invest in a Milwaukee area data center shows the importance of midwestern cities to the growing tech industry. A combination of high caliber talent, stable geography, and growing investment in tech by traditional industries make the Milwaukee region an ideal location to service midwestern clients," said Kathy Henrich, CEO of MKE Tech Hub Coalition.

The data center will have redundant cooling systems and diesel generators to keep it going through thick and thin. 1.2 megawatts of power will be required for the facility, the news release said.
"We see an evolution and journey taking place whereby our clients are improving overall enterprise efficiencies by being able to pick and choose optimal solutions around infrastructure, data management, automation, security and networking," said Bryan Smith, Senior VP & Chief Strategy Officer at Expedient. "This new cloud data center helps augment and solidify the company's Cloud Different approach, launched in April of this year, while giving us a bigger footprint in the central US to better service customers."
The move to the Milwaukee area contrasts against the more common decision of placing data centers in larger cities such as Chicago, the news release said, and will better cater to local businesses.
