FRANKLIN, WI — Franklin's 2021 trick or treat has been scheduled to take place 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The night of candy returns after over a year of pandemic uncertainty. Kids will start clamoring door-to-door for candy this weekend, but those who would rather stay out of the time-tested tradition of trick or treat can display a sign on their door courtesy of the City of Franklin.

Whether you're planning on making the rounds with your kids or if the plan is to simply stay home and gear up for handing out candy, safety is paramount. Here are some tips from the Franklin Police Department for staying safe this Halloween:

For some municipalities last year, the annual Halloween celebration was subject to cancelation and uncertainty because of the pandemic. Many of 2020's celebrations still took place, but a year later and the pandemic is still on — Fortunately, trick-or-treaters can take some preventative measures against COVID-19 for the occasion. Here are some tips from the CDC for a safe Halloween:

  • Wear a mask. Costume masks are not a substitute for other masks. Masks should not be worn by those under two.
  • Wash your hands and sanitize them in between houses.
  • Stay six feet away from anyone who doesn't live with you.
