Moped Crash In Door County Fatally Injures Man From Franklin: Sheriff
A moped crashed into a ditch in Door County on Tuesday, fatally injuring a man from Franklin, according to authorities.
DOOR COUNTY, WI — A moped driver from Franklin was fatally injured when he lost control and crashed on State Highway 42 north of Seaquist Road in Liberty Grove Tuesday evening, the Door County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday.
Authorities found that the 54-year-old man lost control and went into the west ditch, was ejected, and hit a culvert pipe, the news release said. Firefighters and first responders from Sister Bay and Liberty Grovefound were called out around 7:21 p.m.
The man was airlifted from the Ephraim-Gibralter Airport to the Door County Medical Center, then airlifted again to a Green Bay hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the news release.

Authorites said the man was driving a 2021 Taizhou Zhongneng Wolf RX-50 moped southbound on State Highway 42 when he crashed.
Authorities did not immediately identify the man past his name or city of residence, citing pending notification for his family. The sheriff's office noted it was the third fatal crash in Door County so far in 2023.

There were an average of four fatal crashes each year in Door County from 2018-2022, according to data from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
