10 Minutes Might Be Added to Greendale Elementary Schools' Day
Elementary students would end their school day at 3:30 p.m. instead of 3:20 p.m. so that students can have a full 20 minutes to eat.

Greendale Elementary Schools might have an extra 10 minutes added to their school days.
The Greendale School Board will review a proposal to extend the elementary school day by ten minutes, from 3:20 pm to 3:30 pm., so that students can have ample time to eat.
It has been noted that elementary students have less than 20 minutes to eat, according to a report presented to the board on Monday night.

The new student wellness policy says students should have 20 minutes for lunch to assure that students have adequate time to take in nutrition, which is needed for proper learning. The 20 minutes does not include recess time.
The lines for food serving and dressing for the outdoors in colder weather is a factor in the reduced eating time.

Adding the ten minutes will also meet transportation needs because the buses usually don’t arrive until 3:30 p.m. at the schools.
Staff plans to communicate this proposal with parents, most likely at school registrations this Wednesday.
The board will vote on August 20 on the time change.
