GPD Awarded Grant Money After Drunken Driving Crackdown

The Greendale Police Department has received a $4,000 grant for participating in a drunken-driving crackdown initiative Aug. 16-Sept. 3.

During the nationwide initiative, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," Greendale police were on alert with highly-visible law enforcement and patrol.

The money, from the state Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety, will be used to purchase new equipment.

"Because drunken drivers are deadly threats not just to themselves but to everyone else on our roads, our stringent enforcement efforts help save lives and prevent serious injuries," Police Chief Robert Malasuk said in a news release.

"Using both education and enforcement, we are striving to deter people from getting behind the wheel if they're impaired. If more people make the responsible decision to not drive if they're not sober, we will make progress toward the goal of reducing the number of preventable traffic deaths to zero in Wisconsin."
