'Holocaust Shoe Project' Inspiring Greendale Students
Inspired by the tale of a son of a holocaust survivor, Greendale Middle School students are now working to help the homeless.

GREENDALE, WI — Earlier this month, Greendale Middle School welcomed Alan Moraweic, who presented his father's Holocaust survival story to eighth grade students.
Greendale officials said Moroweic, a Richland Center Middle School technology education teacher, gave an inspiring and fascinating account of his father's experience in a Nazi labor camp in Poland during the late 1930s.
Moroweic's story included an account of his father's escape from Nazi incarceration, an affiliation with the Soviet Union Red Army, and his eventual emigration to the United States.

The presentation was called "The Holocaust Shoe Project."
In exchange for presenting this important story of perseverance and hope, Moraweic asked Greendale Middle School to collect new and gently used shoes and donate them to a charity in the community.

Right now, the school is collecting shoes to donate to Stan's Share-a-Pair shoe drive in February. Stan's donates the shoes to the growing homeless population in the Milwaukee area.
The pile of shoes continues to grow at Greendale Middle School.
Next week the students will be sorting and organizing the shoes in preparation for delivering them to Stan's for distribution to Milwaukee's homeless.
