Man Caught Lifting Tablet from Southridge Shop, Police Say

The 20-year-old Milwaukee man now faces a misdemeanor retail theft charge.

A Milwaukee man’s attempt at pilfering a $180 tablet computer from a Southridge Mall department store was foiled by a security officer, police say.

Mickolous Turner, 20,Β was charged July 13 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of retail theft. If convicted, he could face up to nine months imprisonment, or $10,000 in fines, or both.

A security officer at Kohl’s in Southridge Mall told police she saw Turner, accompanied by a woman, on July 11Β pick up a Polaroid brand tablet and remove a theft prevention sensor attached to it, according to the court documents.

The two walked around the store for a while before leaving without the tablet. But, they returned a few minutes later, removed the tablet from its box and walked out without paying, the criminal complaint alleges.

The security officer was able to stop Turner outside the store and retrieve the tablet, court documents say, which was tucked in the waistband of Turner’s pants.

Turner is due in court for a pre-trial conference on Aug. 1, according to online court records.
