Milwaukee Public TV Showcases the 'Quaint' Community of Greendale

The Greendale Visitor Center previewed the Greendale episode of 'Around the Corner with John McGivern'. The show will air on Thursday, April 5,

Greendale was described as a quaint tight-knit community on a Milwaukee Public Television episode of Around the Corner with John McGivern that will air on April 5.

The had a full house as the Greendale episode was previewed to the public on Tuesday, March 27.

Greendale is one of 13 locales the show will focus on, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at familiar and never-heard-of-before places by talking to and observing people around three themes: living, working and playing there.

Host John McGivern trotted the streets of Downtown Greendale meeting with business owners, organization leaders, and indulging in all of the Village’s great offerings.

McGivern takes his viewers through shops and restaurants like , , , and .

People can expect appearances from the , Village President John Hermes, Garden Gazer Paula Wallner, original home owners Al and Virgina Emmons and the Barber Shop Quartet.

Hey, we even get to meet some of Greendale’s dogs.

There’s no way you can talk about Greendale without mentioning the great school district. The show features the Clean & Green Project, in which students go around helping community members with chores.

Superintendent William Hughes said service-learning projects such as the Clean & Green help student become “good engaged citizens.”

At yesterday’s presentation McGivern said the show is drawing more people to the communities they are featuring.

When asked what makes Greendale different from every other community on the show, executive producer Lois Maurer said the Village Center is the heart and what makes the community so tight-knit. Young people leave the Village and end up coming back to raise their own kids.

The Greendale episode premieres Thursday, April 5, on MPTV HD 10.1 at 7:30 p.m. and repeats Friday, April 6, on MPTV HD 36.1 at 8 p.m.
