Village Gives Tips on Caring for New Street Trees

Proper care of your new street tree will promote its healthy and successful establishment. Your cooperation will be beneficial to the survival of your street tree.

• It is important to water the tree. Thorough watering is recommended and is best accomplished by setting your garden hose (nozzle removed) at the base of the tree and letting it slowly trickle to completely saturate the soil. Approximately 10 gallons of water. This procedure should occur weekly unless at least one inch of rain has fallen during that period.
• Keep the base of the tree free of grass and weeds. Do not fertilize or use weed killers.
