Greenfield's Don Almquist Playground Getting Upgrade

GREENFIELD, WI — One of Greenfield's city parks will be getting a much-needed upgrade after city officials approve contract to build new playground equipment.

On Tuesday, the Greenfield Common Council will vote on whether to approve up to $92,000 to Lee Recreation to rebuild the Don Almquist Playground at 4442 S. Honey Creek Drive.

City officials say the existing playground was installed in 1995 and has exceeded its useful life. Officials said playground equipment typically lasts 15-20 years.

At 25 years, city officials said the existing Don Almquist Playground equipment has "structural issues with failing decks and clamps with certain replacement parts that are no longer available."

According to city documents, the playground will be geared for children between 5-12 years old, and will occupy a play space about 49 feet in width by 99 feet in length.

The charcoal, lime and blue metal and plastic structure will feature multiple slides, swings, walking and climbing features with a maximum fall height of eight feet.
