Unbuckled Driver Dies Wednesday in St. Croix County Van vs. Van Crash

Involved in the accident were two men; one from North Hudson, the other, Knapp.

A 57-year-old Knapp man was pronounced dead Wednesday at the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Cady.

Timothy H. Middlestadt was reportedly not wearing his seat belt around 2:30 p.m. when ran a stop sign on 310th Street at CTH N, causing a collision that cost him his life, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Middlestadt was driving his 2001 Chevrolet Express van northbound on 310th when he struck a Ford E450 Super Duty van that was eastbound on CTH N, according to the sheriff's office report. The eastbound vehicle was being driven by a 52-year-old North Hudson man. After colliding, Middlestadt allegedly left the roadway and hit a telephone box and utility pole before coming to a stop in a field on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Shortly thereafter, he was extricated from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the eastbound van was taken to River Falls Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Emergency responders from Wisconsin State Patrol, Spring Valley Fire & EMS, United Fire & Rescue, Baldwin EMS, and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner all assisted at the crash site.

The accident remained under investigation Wednesday evening by the St. Croix County Sheriff's and Medical Examiner's offices.
