All-Clear Given After Bomb Threat At Madison Schools

Madison Memorial High School and Jefferson Middle School were evacuated because of a "detailed" bomb threat, but all-clear has been given.

MADISON, WI — Police have given an all clear and students have returned to class after a bomb threat forced an evacuation at two Madison Metro School District schools in west Madison on Monday morning, a school district spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

The Madison Police Department swept Memorial High School and Jefferson Middle School with bomb-sniffing dogs and reported nothing suspicious shortly after 1 p.m., according to authorities. Students and staff have since returned to class.

A "detailed" bomb threat was called into Dane County 911 just before 11 a.m., prompting an evacuation of the two schools, according to the school district.

The two schools were evacuated to predetermined locations nearby. Memorial High School students and staff went to West Towne Mall, while Jefferson Middle School students and staff were taken to John Muir Elementary School, according to police. The evacuations lasted just over two hours, and all students and staff made it safely back to the school and resumed classes, the school district spokesperson said.

The origin of the threat is still under investigation, police said.

The Madison Police Department had blocked off North Gammon Road at Mineral Point Road, which is adjacent to both schools, during its investigation.
