Here are the top 3 stories in Madison today:

  1. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urges residents to avoid burning this week due to a high wind advisory. This warning comes shortly after the DNR warned residents in western and southwestern Wisconsin of a very high fire risk this week. High winds are able to carry embers and spread fires more easily. So, if you have debris to clean up this Easter weekend, save burning it for another time. (97 Seven Country WGLR)
  2. An 18-year-old woman stepped in to help her neighbor after hearing screaming outside around midnight on Tuesday. Jade Petrowski-Busse heard a woman screaming and ran outside to help without thinking twice. She attempted to pull a man off of her neighbor and the man then reportedly battered and struck Petrowski-Busse. But her actions saved both herself and her neighbor as the man then fled. Police have yet to make an arrest in this case. (NBC 15)
  3. On Thursday, Madison College announced a fund for domestic abuse survivors. The scholarship is a memorial fund for Ismael Sanchez, an advocate for those in the Madison community who experienced sexual assault or domestic violence. The hope is that this fund will provide the necessary financial support for survivors to start over. (Channel 3000)
