Man 'Armed With A Very Large Sword' And Threatened To Use It: Police

The man was arrested and police took the sword, according to Madison authorities.

MADISON, WI — Madison police recently arrested a man who was armed with a large sword and said he intended to use it, according to law enforcement.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Monday in a wooded area near the Amazon distribution center in the 3600 block of Milwaukee Street, according to police.

“Howard Spacejoy Smith was in the area and armed with a very large sword,” police said in an incident report. “He claimed to be looking for someone who may be associated with a nearby encampment. When he encountered the victim, he threatened to physically harm him with the sword he was carrying.”

Smith, 48, was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct while armed and bail jumping, according to police, who said they recovered the sword.
