Student Killed By Police Aimed Pellet Rifle At Cops: WI DOJ
Police found a Ruger .177 caliber pellet rifle at the scene.

MOUNT HOREB, WI — The student killed by police on the Mount Horeb Middle School campus last week pointed a pellet rifle at officers and refused to drop the weapon, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
The student has not yet been publicly identified.
On the morning of Wednesday, May 1, at about 11:10 a.m., someone called 911 after witnessing a person "moving toward Mount Horeb Middle School with a backpack and what appeared to be a long gun," according to investigators.

Mount Horeb Police Department officers responded to the school, where they found someone who appeared to be armed east of the main entrance at 900 Garfield Street.
Officers told the person to drop the weapon, but they did not comply, according to authorities.

"The subject pointed the weapon at the officers, after which law enforcement discharged their firearms, striking the subject," investigators said. "Lifesaving measures were deployed but the subject died on the scene."
Police found a Ruger .177 caliber pellet rifle at the scene.
No law enforcement officers or witnesses were physically injured during the incident. The involved officers were wearing body cameras during the incident, authorities said.
All involved law enforcement were placed on administrative leave, per agency policy.
