Bugline Trail Slated for Improvements

The , which begins in Menomonee Falls and ends in Merton, is expected to receive significant improvements according to plans proposed by Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.

A plan to widen the existing trail to better accommodate multiple groups of trail users was included as part of Vrakas’ 2012-2016 Capital Plans. The plan would create a safer surface for trail users and increase accessibility for runners, wheelchair users, stroller users and in-line skaters.

The plan is also folded into the county Sustainability Plan to make communities within the county more energy efficient. The trail improvements will help make the county more walk-able and bike-able, which is part of the overall goal of increasing sustainability.

Another component of the county’s Sustainability Plan is to make county facilities more energy efficient.  Last year, Waukesha County was awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation block grant to implement energy and cost saving projects. 

The block grant dollars were used to implement a number of energy reduction projects. These projects include lighting in the Juvenile Center parking lot, jail entrance and connector and the parking lot of the existing Health and Human Services building.  It also includes interior lighting at the Mental Health Center, Juvenile Center and Administration Center.  Additionally, at the Naga-Waukee Ice Arena, the ice compressor controls and lighting will be upgraded.
