After Dan Knodl vacated his 24th Assembly District seat for a senate seat, a special election to fill the role has been set for July.
Rep. Dan Knodl (R-Germantown) is running against Democrat Jodi Habush Sinykin, an environmental lawyer, for the 8th Senate District seat.
He beat Trump-backed Rep. Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls) and Thiensville village president Van Mobley.
The race for this seat, which represents the suburbs north of Milwaukee, will determine whether the GOP regains a Senate supermajority.
The seat, which represents parts of Washington, Ozaukee and Waukesha counties, and northern Milwaukee suburbs, was vacated in December.
Jodi Habush Sinykin, an attorney from Whitefish Bay, announced her candidacy for the seat.
A primary election, if necessary, will be held on Feb. 21.
A second Republican state representative entered the race to fill Alberta Darling's Wisconsin Senate seat, according to media reports.
The seat is open following the retirement of Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills), who was first elected to the Senate in 1992.
