Community Memorial Offering Healthcare Scholarships

Community Memorial Foundation and the medical staff are offering scholarships to provide financial assistance to students studying for a career in healthcare.

The application is due March 1, and is available online.

Community Memorial Foundation offers scholarships funded by donors to students pursuing health careers who reside in the hospital’s service area. The students are selected by a scholarship committee based on their academic excellence, interest in health professions, scholarship need and enrollment in an accredited university or college.

“The scholarship program is just one of many ways the Foundation helps the hospital build healthcare expertise for the future,” said Rick Binzak, volunteer chairman of the Board of Directors of Community Memorial Foundation. “Young people from our local communities get their healthcare career start because donors give so generously to support the scholarship program at our hospital.”

Multiple scholarships are awarded. Several scholarships are named in recognition of individuals and families who have supported the hospital: the Pam Parker Scholarship, Marguerite Preuss Scholarship, Nursing Appreciation Scholarship, Poehl Family Scholarship, Joecks Family Scholarship, Donald E. Searles Scholarship and Jackie Irwin Scholarship.

CMH medical staff offers scholarships to eligible high school seniors who reside in the hospital’s service area and are planning for a career in a medical or healthcare field.

“Our medical staff funds scholarships every year,” said Dennis Shepherd, MD, president of the Community Memorial Hospital medical staff. “It is a long journey to enter many healthcare careers and we believe in helping the next generation get a healthy start.”
