Drunken Prowler an Unwelcome House Guest

There typically aren't a lot of positive outcomes when your blood-alcohol level is nearly four times the legal limit. For a 20-year-old Sussex man, he ended his drunken night as an unwelcome guest in someone else’s home.

About 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, a husband and wife were awakened by the man in their home on Fairview Drive in Menomonee Falls. The woman said she saw the man standing outside their bedroom door, and heard him mutter, “Hey, how’s it going?”

When the man walked away from the area, the husband armed himself with a kitchen knife and he, his wife and two children locked themselves in the bedroom and called 911. They told police that they had left several doors in the home unlocked.

After getting the call, police found the man walking along a wooded area near Lannon Road and Fairview Drive. According to reports, the man was slurring his speech and had mud and grass stains on his jeans and palms from running through the woods. When he consented to a sobriety test, his blood-alcohol level was 0.30.

The man had no idea why he had been running through the woods, or why he was where he was. However, he did know this much about his current locale. 

“I know I’m not anywhere I should be,” the man said to police. 

The man said that if officers said he was in someone’s house – then he probably was, and that he was very sorry. The man told police he was at TGI Friday’s in Brookfield earlier in the evening, and went to his friend's house, and then to have a few drinks at Sussex Place Tavern.

After having a few drinks at Sussex Place, the man said the next thing he remembered was sitting on the ground surrounded by police.

The man was arrested and booked for a municipal citation of prowling.  When police searched the man, they found two golf balls in his front pocket. Not surprisingly, he had no recollection of how those got into his pocket.

The man will make a muncipal court appearance July 13.
