Lightning Strikes Falls Home Causing Partial Roof Collapse

No one was injured by the strike, and it didn't ignite a fire. It's the first storm damage in the village this year.

The storm season claimed its first serious damage in Menomonee Falls Thursday afternoon after a powerful storm tore through the village.

A home at N65W13098 Marach Road. was struck by lightning causing the apex of roof above the garage to collapse. Numerous neighborhood kids said they heard a loud boom just as they were returning home from school. The lightning strike sent debris from the roof flying throughout the yard, but the strike didn’t ignite a fire at the home fire officials say.

No one was present in the home when firefighters arrived at 3:05 p.m. said a fire official on the scene.

Firefighters are asking residents in the area to be aware of the smell of gas, and to report it immediately. Sometimes after a lightning strike, gas lines below the ground can end up getting punctured.
