UPDATE: Pasch, Huber Square Off In Recall Primary Tuesday
The new voter identification law will be partially implemented for the first time in this election, which is expected to have high turnout.
On Tuesday, Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) will square off with “fake” Democrat Gladys Huber in a , the first election held with new voter identification rules.
Voter turnout as of 2 p.m. is still unclear, as attempts to reach Village Clerk Janice Moyer have been unsuccesful. She has been out visiting the polling locations throughout the afternoon.
However, at 1:45 p.m. roughly 240 of the 2,000 voters in wards 5,6 and 13 at the had cast a vote in the election. Poll workers said traffic had been steady, and the process has gone smoothily despite some preliminary changes that were implemented with the new voter identification law.

The winner of the primary will face state Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) in the 8the District recall election Aug. 9. Turnout was expected to be high, and Village Clerk Janice Moyer ordered enough ballots for about 70 percent of the 23,000 registered voters in Menomonee Falls.
“We have about 70 percent ordered. If need be we can always copy ballots — we would never run out.,” Moyer said. “We typically know by noon what the turnout is going to be.”

When you go to the polls on Tuesday, expect to see a few changes in procedures, as will be partially implemented. Here are primary changes will be in effect Tuesday:
- Voters will be asked, but are not required to provide a photo ID. However, beginning in 2012 a voter must provide ID in order to vote.
- Any voter not able to provide a photo ID in 2011 will be given a handout that has been created by the Government Accountability Board.
- Voters must sign the poll list when voting at a polling location on Election Day before they can receive a ballot.
- The residency requirement has changed from 10 days prior to Election Day to 28 consecutive days prior to Election Day.
- A voter can no longer use a corroborating witness when registering to vote.
- University and college students can establish residency for registration by using the combination of a college ID with a photo and a fee payment receipt dated no earlier than nine months before the election.
Tuesday will be a trial run for the poll workers implementing the new changes before full implementation in 2012.
“We have been training the poll workers so they will all be familiar with this, so it may take them a little time,” Moyer said. “They will be referring to their list I’m sure, but we have trained them last week.”
